I really appreciate the diversity of our student body and approach students with that in mind.
Cheri Ketchum, PhD
Dr. Cheri Ketchum is lead faculty in the Communication Arts department that is part of the Division of General Education at Ashford University. She obtained her PhD in Communication from University of California, San Diego and her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts from San Francisco State University. After earning her Doctorate in 2005, Dr. Ketchum taught for about a year as an adjunct at UCSD. She then did strategic research for a labor union in Las Vegas for many years. At the end of her time there, she was responsible for writing training curriculum for new employees; this made her miss teaching. She joined the faculty at Ashford in May 2011 and now instructs courses in communication studies. Dr. Ketchum says, “I’ve had the opportunity to interact with people from diverse ethnic, economic, and educational backgrounds in a variety of work and volunteer situations. This has trained me well for my experience here at Ashford. I really appreciate the diversity of our student body and approach students with that in mind. Knowing where students come from helps me understand how best to instruct them.” Dr. Ketchum enjoys cooking, making arts and crafts, travelling, watching movies and television with a critical eye, and listening to both live and recorded music. She lives with her boyfriend and their dog in Henderson, NV.
