I like to encourage my students to push through no matter how difficult the first two sets of courses may seem.
Paula Webb Battistelli, PhD
Dr. Paula Webb Battistelli is an Associate Dean of the Communication Arts Academic Department Chair in the Division of General Education at Ashford University. She holds a PhD in Composition and Rhetoric from Washington State University, a Master’s degree in Composition and Rhetoric from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and a Bachelor’s degree in English from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Dr. Battistelli teaches introductory level writing courses at Ashford and tries to emphasize to her students that writing isn’t necessarily a gift; good writers must work at it. Her favorite part of teaching is learning about her students and their varied, interesting lives. She believes the online format at Ashford helps her get to know her students more thoroughly than she would in a traditional classroom and says, “I believe all students have something to write about. They just need to know the steps and models to use in order to be effective. I like to encourage my students to push through no matter how difficult the first two sets of courses may seem. Sometimes it takes a while to get your bearings. Those first sets are always the hardest but if you can get through them, you can make it through the degree program.” Dr. Battistelli currently resides in Denver, CO with her husband, son, black lab, and tortoiseshell cat.
