It was everything I wanted in a college.

Meredith Parker

After graduating from Comanche High School in 2009, Meredith Parker enrolled at Ashford University. "One of the main reasons I chose Ashford was the small class size, which meant I would have the individualized attention that I wanted from professors." When Meredith visited the Clinton campus, she knew immediately that it was a good fit. "It was everything I wanted in a college."

During her freshman year, Meredith lived at home in Comanche, which is a ten-minute drive from the Clinton campus. Then, just before her second year Ashford announced the Academic Scholarships, and Meredith earned a President's Scholarship, which, at the time, required a minimum 3.50 grade point average (GPA) and covered the full cost of annual tuition. The scholarship also qualified Meredith to apply for the Room and Board Scholarship. "The Room and Board Scholarship is competitive," Meredith explains. "It requires a 3.50 GPA or higher and submitting an essay." Meredith received the scholarship, and was thus able to move into the BW, one of Ashford's student residence halls. While living in the residence hall, she told us: "I have two roommates and we have our own bathroom. The rooms are spacious, and I like that we have air conditioning. We also have community rooms and our own cafeteria. It's a very nice set-up."

Once she moved on campus, Meredith became more involved in the Ashford community. "I thought the Student Government Association (SGA) was the perfect place to start, since they oversee most of the clubs and organizations on campus. I also liked the idea of joining a club with a focus on being the voice of the students." In order to join SGA, Meredith submitted an application form and an essay, as well as three references. She was soon elected as the Vice President of Publicity. "My main task was making posters to promote upcoming events. I also decided the themes for the Monday and Tuesday night cosmic bowling. My goal was to help people get excited about events."

Meredith graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in 2013 at age 22 with hopes of finding a management position in the future. "There are so many aspects of business that interest me, but I know I definitely want to be in management. I also plan to get involved in my community through some form of volunteering." Meredith told us she made the right choice attending Ashford and said she "can't wait to see what the future holds!"
