I never want to stop growing.

Terry Satchell

Terry Satchell, from Easton, MD, started his career as an EMT and paramedic in 1981. Since then, he has worked his way up to become the Coordinator for Emergency Medical Services and Resuscitation Education at his local hospital. But he’s not ready to stop there. “I’ve always wanted to continue [growing in] my career, and to be able to do that I needed the education.”

Terry’s supervisor Barbara hoped he wouldn’t wait much longer to take steps toward that goal. “We wanted him to take it up a notch to a Master’s degree, and Terry accepted that. He was just waiting for the right program to come along.”

After looking for ways to fund his goal, Terry was fortunate enough to secure a full scholarship to Ashford University offered by eLearners.com called Working Mom…and Dads Too! Though that was a major benefit, he found there was a lot more to like about Ashford. Says Barbara, “You couldn’t find a better match for Terry than the program Ashford had to offer.”

With two sons active in Little League and his career to juggle, Ashford’s online format was essential to his success. “Being able to study after the boys went to bed – evenings, nights, weekends – Ashford was a perfect choice for me.” He also relished getting to know his classmates. “We had people from all over the country taking classes together at the same time. Ashford made us feel like we were a part of a university, part of their community.”

Terry graduated from Ashford in April 2011 at age 46. He graduated as a member of the Golden Key Honour Society and the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society (not affiliated with Ashford), and would like to eventually become a Chief Nursing Officer. “I felt very comfortable with my education and the preparation that I have received from Ashford. I believe that the classes prepared me for many difference aspects in the health care arena.

“I never want to stop growing,” he concludes. “You can never stop growing with this.”
