Ashford University has given me the confidence to pursue my dreams and to take on challenges.
Jasmine Camille Rogers
Jasmine Camille Rogers believes it was no accident she was promoted from Case Manager to Executive Director of the Village of Hope in Salisbury, MD mere months before graduating with her Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from Ashford University. “I attribute it to my growth and development at work as well as my educational experience at Ashford University,” she says.
Jasmine graduated from Ashford in November 2013 at the age of 24. During her studies she simultaneously worked at the Village of Hope, a non-profit transitional living facility that provides two-year transitional homes for homeless women and children, with stints as an intern and a case manager. This workload is one of the primary reasons she chose Ashford for her education. “I did not want to relocate, as I was thoroughly enjoying my work experience,” she says. “I decided to seek online educational opportunities that would be convenient for my schedule and not require a move.”
When an executive director position opened up at Village of Hope in September 2013, the board of directors unanimously approved Jasmine’s appointment. “I love being able to help individuals in need and assist in working towards reducing homelessness.” As the executive director at the facility, she is responsible for managing all programs, services, and facilities in accordance with the Village of Hope’s mission, philosophy, policies, and established goals. In the position, she is able to utilize knowledge learned during her studies at Ashford, as well as from the life lessons that came with the experience.
“It was through Ashford I learned to put forth my best effort and elaborate in my research,” she says. “Ashford also empowered me to be productive and vocal about my passions.”
During her time in the MPA program, Jasmine was inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society.
“Without reservations, I would recommend Ashford University to my fellow friends, family members, and colleagues,” she says. “I felt that every course and instructor I encountered along the way was both challenging and informative, and Ashford’s online platform was efficient and easy to use.”
Jasmine would like to pursue a doctoral degree in human services or organizational leadership in the future. “Ashford University has given me the confidence to pursue my dreams and to take on challenges. It has also changed my views about online learning – if you put forth your best work, online learning can be just as productive as learning in the classroom.”
